l APPLIED l Makers Offerings

In celebration of three decades of Applied Arts Scotland (AAS) exhibitions our first Open Members’ Exhibition – now available online only – presents a diverse and exciting array of approaches to making, spanning contemporary applied art, design and craft. Featuring a selection of ambitious new and existing works by AAS’ vibrant and versatile membership base, this exhibition showcases around 80 works by over 50 professional makers, showcasing the breadth of talent working across Scotland today.

l APPLIED l Makers Offerings offered experimental and playful curation by co-curators Sarah Calmus & Svetlana Panova, where artworks were set within an engaging environment, connected to one another through themes including playfulness, identity, the circular economy and the Scottish landscape. The majority of the exhibition’s infrastructure was sourced and built through lending, hiring and the use of surplus materials from making practices in an attempt to minimise its environmental impact and to explore more sustainable ways of exhibition production.

The exhibition was held from 27 May to 10 June 2023 at Custom Lane Centre for Design and Making, 1 Custom Wharf, Leith, Edinburgh EH6 6AL.

Supported by Creative Scotland Recovery Fund for Cultural Organisations and Creative Informatics Participant & Alumni Creative Tech Fund. Accessibility equipment within the exhibition space is kindly loaned by Neuk Collective and Door in the Wall Arts Access CIC.
