Bio

May Mayberry lives and works in Ayrshire. Before her final year at University, May’s work was primarily painting in watercolour, acrylic and oil. In her final undergraduate year at UWS, May began to experiment with digital embroidery and produced a body of work, which was influenced by the Glasgow Four and other students and teachers from the Glasgow School of Art. Her playful approach to life is evident in her work, along with the love of her home city of Glasgow.

This serendipitous development in her practice has resulted in May working primarily in textiles ever since.

May has returned to University to study for an MA in Creative Media Practice and her most recent project, which currently is in research and development stages, will be the culmination of her Master’s Degree Project.

A body of work depicting characters and scenes from Scottish Folklore and Mythology, using digital embroidery, is to be produced for exhibition in the summer of 2015. May’s research into Chinese Su Xiu Embroidery has informed this project and as much as is possible, she will transfer the traditional hand embroidery techniques into a digital platform to create artworks which are as beautiful as they are different to Chinese Masters’ work.
