Michelle of Simply Pidge, dyes fleece, silk and yarn, and spins her own yarn and art yarns, which are then woven into unique creations. They are wearable art created on simple looms and Saori looms. She also uses commercial yarns she dyes, to make wall hangings and lighter textiles. Michelle creates her textiles in her studio in South West Scotland, just a few miles from the Mull of Galloway, where she lives amongst a flock of looms! She has been weaving for 14 years, using every more complex looms under the tutelage of masters in their field. But has since moved away from complex weaving to use creative expression and free weaving on simpler looms.
Michelle teaches weaving for beginners and to a more advanced level for those who want to progress further. She also teaches spinning for beginners, but specialises in art yarn spinning for those ready for more creation in their yarn making.
Michelle believes that her weaving is about freedom of expression and creating textiles that use skills in dyeing and spinning, but mostly knowing the weaving rules in order to break them!
