AAS Members Code of Conduct

Run by makers for makers, Applied Arts Scotland SCIO (AAS) support our Members, whether emerging or established, based locally or globally, with opportunities to connect, engage, build skills, be heard and encouraged. With a strong sense of community and support among our network, we nurture the creative heart and soul of Members’ practices, supporting each other to make sustainable livelihoods.

A membership-led charitable organisation, with a volunteer Board of Charity Trustees, it is essential we treat each other with kindness and respect, are inclusive and conduct ourselves professionally. The Code of Conduct should be read alongside AAS’s Constitution.

AAS Members – whether individuals, groups, etc. – agree to abide by this Code by:

  • Upholding AAS’s charitable purposes as per our Constitution.
  • Treating fellow Members and Charity Trustees with respect, encouraging and supporting them with their creative and professional development.
  • Engaging non-Members – e.g. participants, partners, contractors, volunteers – in AAS’s activities and events.
  • Welcoming and including everyone in AAS’s activities and initiatives, regardless of their characteristics or range of political and personal beliefs (whether or not you agree with them) as per our Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy.
  • Being open to the perspectives of others with compassion and without making assumptions.
  • Acting honestly, with integrity, dignity and courtesy.
  • Communicating effectively and respectfully through open dialogue, exchange and by active listening.
  • Championing and advocating for AAS, its Members, activities and initiatives.
  • Professionally and accurately representing your connection and commitment to AAS at events and forums.
  • Observing the parameters of projects, opportunities and activities including Member-led groups (e.g. deadlines).

Any instances of the following that are drawn to the attention of the Board will be dealt with via the AAS Complaints Procedure:

  • Personal attacks, harassment, abusive behaviour and discrimination (whether in person or digitally) towards fellow Members and non-Members.
  • Personal and professional misconduct that might put AAS’s reputation at risk or bring it into disrepute, including pursuit of personal gain.

This version (version 1) of the AAS Members Code of Conduct was developed and implemented in February 2026 in consultation with AAS Members. It will be reviewed in one year and every two years thereafter.
