‘Autumn Transitions’ Handwoven Scarf/Wrap

Description

A lightweight, handwoven scarf or wrap, made using fine silk and Scottish spun cashmere. It measures about 50 x 200cm (including fringes). My work is inspired by the changing colours, weather and moods of the local landscapes around my home in rural Stirlingshire – in this case using the transition of Autumn and it’s colours as the theme. Whether working as a fine artist or as a weaver, I am particularly interested in exploring colour relationships, blending and balance of contrasts, as well as other elements of composition. This is a one-off prototype length in which both the design and colours transition from one section to the next. Some areas were selected for scarf designs, and put into small scale production at a mill in the Scottish Borders to make up a collection for me to sell under my own label. Exploiting one of the advantages of handweaving, this piece has many more colours in it than would be possible for the mill to weave as a single design.
