Botanical Book Nook

Description

This botanical cabinet of curiosities is a collaborative piece created by Botanical-printer Elisabeth Viguie-Culshaw & Bookbinder Cass Barron, two makers who share an interest in sustainability and nature.

It was originally made for the ‘Printing in Woodlands’ exhibit to showcase the richness of working together when separated geographically – a concept Elisabeth & Cass embraced during the Covid crisis when they devised a series of online workshops, bringing makers from across the world together to get creative with the leaves on their doorstep.

The hinged display box, created by Cass, incorporates Elisabeth’s prints onto paper and fabric, made using Scottish leaves, and presents some of the raw materials used in the botanical printing process. A series of multilayered book structures sit within, which explore the range of textures, marks and colours botanical printing can achieve.

Cass & Elisabeth’s accompanying online course ‘Print, Dye and Stitch’ can be found on Teachable.
