Description

This design inspiration for this piece (and the Byre collection) came about from an ideas exchange with Scottish glass artist Karlyn Sutherland. Inspiration came from her installation in a byre at Latheronwheel —where she mapped the fall of light. Niela brought Karlin’s original markings and shapes into her own design process, working with the the unusual cuts and exploring how they sit against the body when worn.

The byre cape is a versatile piece with engineered pattern, which can be worn in several ways. Machine knitted in double jacquard, It consists of 2 panels that are linked mirroring each other, so one side reveals light pattern on a dark background, and the other side the reverse. It’s cut is asymmetric and when slipped over the head it can be moved around by the wearer to suit their preference. Designed and made in Shetland using super fine merino yarns.
